Norwegian Cruise Ship Stranded in Dominican Republic

INTERNATIONAL: On Monday ,March 14,a Norwegian cruise ship was stranded as it left the Taino Bay port at Puerto Plata in Dominican Republic.

Dominican Navy Vice Admiral, Ramon Betanches Hernandez, has said that the crew and passengers on the Norwegian Escape, which belongs to the Norwegian Cruise Line, are safe.

"This unfortunate event was caused by great winds during this afternoon, close to 30-knot winds," he has added.

Dominican authorities are using tug boats and are hoping the rising tides on Tuesday ,March 15, will help them move the ship.

The are 1,618 crew members and 3,223 passengers on board.
